Michael Lohnes – Coach Hockey 3 C4
I would like to mention Michael Lohnes, he is a fantastic coach who takes time with each child to not only teach and praise them but also to make sure that they are doing OK and how they feel about things that are going on. He has made each player feel special whether it be for their first goal of the season or for being an amazing team player. He is also real and tries to make sure the boys understand how hard they are going to have to work next season.
Frank Pochyly and Al Virani – Assistant Coaches – Bantam C6
Two volunteer who made a huge difference this year:

Frank Pochyly and Al Virani started the season intending to enjoy a quiet time as spectators at their sons’ hockey games. I had already agreed to be an assistant coach, but because nobody else stepped up, I corralled them and asked if they would join me in helping out as assistant coach (Frank) and safety person (Al). Although it was not their preference, what could they say? Both stepped forward and committed themselves to serving the team, and both went well beyond the expectations of the job, putting in many unexpected hours either on the ice or on the bench. It was an unusual year for us all, and despite many strange — and sometimes disconcerting — circumstances, these guys never wavered in their commitment to making things better for our team. They also made my job of taking over as head coach possible. They are true team players and it’s because of their solid efforts that our season has been as good as it has.
Natalie Hayton – Hockey 2-C3
Our team consisted of 9 new players who were new not only to the CMHA but to the sport of hockey itself, and only 3 returning players. At the beginning of the season we had no manager. Natalie, a busy working Mom, stepped up to the plate and took the challenge on despite not having any knowledge about the organization never mind zero hockey managing experience. She faced the challenge head on, attending any meeting she could and printing off whatever resource materials she could find. She could be seen at nearly every practice with her binder of materials and a big smile on her face, socializing with the parents and cheering the boys on the ice. She did an amazing job for a first year manager, particularly given that she was new to the sport itself. Despite the fact that our team consisted of mostly new players, the boys progressed a LOT throughout the year. We as parents could focus on encouraging our children to play their best and have fun while Natalie took care of all the behind the scenes work. She signed us up for every fundraising initiative possible, including Vancouver Giants and Coquitlam Express fundraiser evenings which brought our team closer together. She was on top of everything and communicated with all the parents both in person and via email efficiently and seemingly effortlessly throughout the year. We had a wonderful first season thanks in large part to Natalie.

Natalie Hayton, Manager H2 C3
I would like to nominate our team manager Natalie Hayton (H2-C3 Crushers).
She has worked tirelessly to get our team organized, going the extra mile to get extra ice time and regular games booked so that the kids get lots of chance to practice their skills. Pretty impressive for a rookie!
Dan Drolet – Coach – Midget A3
I would like to nominate Dan Drolet. Dan stepped up to coach the Midget A3 team when it looked like once again there was difficulties securing a coach. I know it was not what he really wanted for this year. In the end it has been a fantastic Dan connects with the kids in a meaningful way. He has been supportive, encouraging, fun, knowledgeable. He totally has gotten the best out of my son and I have seen him enjoy hockey more this year than almost any other year. This has been one of the best years and I really put that down to Dan’s Leadership on and off the ice.

Dan Drolet – Coach – Midget A3
My wife and I would both like to nominate Dan Drolet, head coach of our Coquitlam Midget A-3 team. Dan stepped up when the team had no coach at the beginning of the season. Never having met Dan, I found him to be a very nice man. I thought he represented our association well. He has done a great job with our group. My son has had a great time this year. Dan respected the boys, was patient, and treated them fairly. Great job, Dan! Great Guy and happy to have been lucky enough to have him coach our son
Allison Claydon,Manager, Atom C3
She is glue to this team. i believe she’s gone above and beyond her duties, keeping the peace, keeping us up to date, getting us extra practice times, exhibition games, raising $$$, and she’s just a really really nice person. i feel like we are apart of something and alot of this is to do with Allison.
Cathy Smith – Team Manager PW A3
Our parent team manager, Cathy (Stuart Smith’s Mom) (PeeWee A3) who ensured that our season went flawlessly through her organizational skills and diplomatic way of dealing with issues as they came up. Besides regular manager duties, Cathy put herself in the time-keepers box on a regular basis and dealt with irate coaches (irate at refs and particular calls that she had to record), with extreme patience. Her son was ill and/or unable to participate at quite a few games throughout the season, but Cathy would ensure that she was at the games whether her son was playing or not. Above and beyond… these two words encapsulate the efforts Cathy went to throughout the season. She even copied out menus from restaurants close to the rinks at away games and phoned in orders so as not to overwhelm restaurant staff, and so that we did not have to wait extended periods of time to get our food after a game.
We could not have asked for a better manager. Thank you, Cathy!
